Hilltown Love - Winter Couple Session in Ashfield Massachusetts

Michael and Sydney were married on June 2, 2018 at Red Gate Farm in Ashfield, Massachusetts. Over the holidays, Michael reached out to me to see if I’d be available to take some photos of the two of them at their home over the winter. They didn’t hire a photographer for their wedding and Michael wanted to surprise Sydney with a couple session for Christmas. These sessions are a great way to reconnect with your partner. I loved that they were open to that and that they were excited to throw on their wedding clothes one more time to celebrate the day.

I’ve been to Ashfield a handful of times. Once to photograph my friend’s farm and another time to camp. It’s a beautiful place for two free spirited people like Michael and Sydney to call home. They both grew up in Texas, met in college, travelled around a bit, and then decided to move to the Northeast. For kids from the south, I’d say this is a pretty raw commitment to New England life. Ashfield has no cell service, tons of farm land, dirt roads, swimming holes, and is a popular place for western mass artists and thinkers to tuck away in the woods.

I arrived at their house one Saturday morning in late March. The snow had melted in my town, but as soon as I pulled into Ashfield I noticed that old man winter was still holding on. Of course, I lost my GPS signal on the way and was driving around aimlessly for a bit. I rolled down my window at the sight of every dog walker to ask for directions like it was 1998, and still could not find their street. Finally I saw a happy couple standing at the end of a long muddy road. I pulled over and thankfully it was Michael and Sydney! They had a feeling I was lost and walked out to the main road to flag me down.

I parked my truck at the end of the road, and fearing I’d get stuck halfway down the muddy driveway, walked the rest of the way to their tiny cabin in the woods.

When I arrived I learned that Sydney had woken up with a cold and was trying desperately to ignore feeling sick for the session. We spent some time inside drinking tea and eating toast. We talked about their wedding, how they met, and the beautiful property they call home. I snapped a few photos indoors and when she built up the energy to go outside, she effortlessly threw on her wedding dress and ran out in the snow for me!

I photographed some of the details from their wedding day. Rings, handkerchiefs they used for place settings, invitations, funny notes and drawings in their guestbook, and a few polaroids from the big day. I especially loved how Sydney’s dress showed signs of the fun they had at their wedding, dancing in the barn down the road from their cabin.

I loved all of the one on one time I had with these two. They were incredibly sweet, funny, and adventurous. Being able to photograph them in their little cabin on such a beautiful winter day was an extra treat. Congrats you two! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

This Engagement Session went terribly wrong

Patty and Chris had their first first date at the Iron Duke in Ludlow, Massachusetts. The Iron Duke is located in old Mill buildings along the Chicopee river and it’s one of my favorite places to explore in town for photos.

Sadly, this session did not end well for Patty and Chris.

Next time, don’t fall asleep!

Sam and Corey's Fall Engagement Session

westernmassweddingphotography-12.jpg

Samantha and Corey will be getting married next year at the Mill on the River and I am so excited to be there as their photographer!

Samantha is a teacher and Corey is an engineer and they are just the sweetest couple ever.

I took their engagement photos at the Quabbin Reservoir on the most perfect fall day we’ve had this season. The session also happened to be one year and a day from their wedding date so the countdown is on!

Surprise Proposal Photography in Easthampton, Massachusetts

I feel so lucky to have photographed Joshua and Sarah's proposal as a surprise in downtown Easthampton along Nashawannuck pond. The pond sits at the base of Mt. Tom and behind a string of shops and restaurants in the old mill district.

The best part about this proposal was that neither Joshua nor Sarah knew that I was hired to be there! It took some coordinating but I managed to capture the moment.

Sarah has a love for corgis in bow ties, so her boyfriend Joshua decided to find a "stranger" (friend of his sister) to casually be walking her corgi in a purple bow tie by the pond where they were walking.

When Sarah saw the corgi up ahead, she immediately started running towards it to see if she could say hello. The corgi, named Nudnick, had a note tied to his collar that said, "Will you marry me?"

After she saw the note, Joshua got on his knee and asked her to marry her and she said yes!
