Newborn Lifestyle Session in Ludlow, MA - Charlie

massachusetts family photographer-14.jpg

Last month I had the privilege of photographing this little peanut for a newborn session at home with his parents, Christina and Travis. Christina was given a gift certificate for this session at her shower over the winter and I’ve been so excited to meet all of them!

Charlie’s name was inspired by a trip that Christina and Travis had taken to Boston after staying at the historic Omni Hotel, which is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of Charles Dickens. It also happens to be a common name on Travis’ side of the family.

Travis is Native American and he and Christina wanted to include some elements of that history into this session. We played with many of the dream catchers they had decorating the walls of their home. Turns out they make great mobiles!

Charlie was the squishiest, most snuggly baby and oddly had a lot of personality for being so new to the world. He’d already earned many nicknames from his parents including, my favorite, “Charlie-bones”. Apparently he really enjoyed the newest Bone Thugs documentary on Netflix.

Savannah - Spring photos at Small Ones Farm in Amherst, Massachusetts

I photographed Savannah 4 years ago when she was only a few weeks old and every year since then I’ve been fortunate to photograph her at a session!

She was so eager to explore the apple orchard at Small Ones Farm during my Spring Mini sessions and I was happy to follow her with my camera.

I loved seeing how much she’s grown since our last session and I can’t wait to see what new things she’ll be up to next year! Here she is with her sweet mom Erika, who joined her for a few photos at the session.

Custom-made Maple USB and Slide Box Combos

I am so excited to now offer these beautiful, custom-made, maple USB and slide box combos. We all wish we were a little bit better about keeping track of our personal photos (myself included). This is a great way to hold onto your most treasured memories on a natural wood printed keepsake.

Inside the box is a custom 16GB USB stick that holds all of your high resolution wedding photos as well as a space for 4x6 prints. Your image is printed directly onto the wood surfaces of the USB drive and the memory stick, so the natural grain of the wood will peak through your image.

Most of my wedding packages now include one of these beauties, but if yours doesn’t, you can always add one to your cart after your gallery is delivered or shoot me a message and I can help you get one!

Branding Session for Millside Studio in Ludlow, MA

springfield mass microblading

Ana has been working toward building her own microblading practice for many years and finally all of her hard work is coming together. Recently, she decided opened Millside Studio, a brand new microblading studio in Ludlow. She needed photographs to help launch her website and social media accounts and she reached out to me to book a session in the spring.

I visited her space beforehand and worked with her to create a diverse set of photos that spoke to her brand and showcased her new space and talent. We decided to take her photos inside her studio and at the Ludlow Mills, which was the inspiration for naming her business. She also wanted to have some images showing her process, so she had a client come in to model.

Ana is licensed, certified, insured and incredibly good at what she does!  She already has a big client base and I can see it only getting bigger when her studio officially opens. She is conveniently located right in the center of town in a building that she and her husband have been renovating since last year. They’ve done an amazing job and it’s really turning into a beautiful space!

Keep an eye out for this business as she makes all of the finishing touches to the outside! Congrats Ana on all of your hard work and thank you for working with me! I can’t wait for your doors to open!

Product Photography for Bindertek

Bindertek recently overhauled their website and wanted fresh product photography to brighten their pages. I recently finished up a stop motion video series with them. In April, they sent me home with boxes full of binders to photograph.

I am having fun with this project. It’s a nice change of pace from weddings and family sessions. I definitely get into a rhythm when a mountain of product like this shows up. Here is a sample of some of the work I’ve done for them.

Corey and Rafaela's Portuguese Wedding in Ludlow, Massachusetts

Corey and Rafaela were married at St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Ludlow, Massachusetts on April 27, 2019 and held their reception at the Ludlow Portuguese Club. It was a beautiful early spring day when all of the trees were just started to open up after a long winter. We did have to dodge a few rain drops but the overcast sky made for great photos.

Rafaela got ready with her bridesmaids at the MGM Springfield, while Corey spent the morning with his best friends and closest family at his Avo's house in Ludlow (Avo is grandmother in Portuguese). Both spaces were a dream to work in. The MGM was full of swank while his Avo’s house was packed with old world charm.

They had a full Catholic mass for their wedding ceremony, led by Reverend Msgr. Homer P. Gosselin. Corey’s parents each did a reading and there was live music throughout the mass. One of my favorite moments from this wedding was the look on Corey and Rafaela’s faces when they saw each other for the first time. It lasted through most of the ceremony and I was able to capture a few of their loving glances.

After the ceremony, we went to Springfield City Hall to take photos of the couple and their bridal party. I used a super wide lens for some of these photos so I could really capture the size of the inside and out of this building. I love the staircases and the concrete steps outside. It’s really a classy location with a lot of variety to play with.

We returned to the Ludlow Portuguese Club for the reception. Corey’s father is on the board at the club, and Corey and Rafaela had their first date there a few years ago. We made sure to snap a few photos of the couple upstairs in the bar as a nod to that first encounter.

It was such a pleasure to work with these two and I’m sad that this wedding is over! Congratulations Rafaela and Corey, I wish you a lifetime of love, health and happiness.

A day in the life with Violet - Newborn Lifestyle Session

Every time a couple books a newborn session with me I add their due date to the calendar and check in a few weeks before that day comes. In this case, I was totally surprised when I received a text from Violet’s uncle saying that she had been born almost 3 weeks earlier than expected.

I spent the afternoon with Joe, Ashley, and Violet last month. At the end of her pregnancy, Ashley had slipped on ice and broken her arm, so not only did she have a newborn that needed constant attention, she also only had one arm to manage it all. Watching her haul Violet around the house, feed her bottles, change her, and find comfy spots on the couch to rest was very impressive.

Joe had his arms full too with this little one, pulling the latest of the late nights with her on the couch while Ashley caught up on some much needed sleep.

Congratulations Ashley and Joe and thank you for sharing this super special day with me! Little Violet was so sweet to work with.

Summer Camp Sweethearts - Arlyn and Alex's Playful Wedding in the Berkshires

Arlyn grew up in Australia and spent her summers at Camp Hazen in Chester, Connecticut. She and Alex met as campers there and fell in love. After enduring a very very long distance relationship, Alex proposed to Arlyn and they decided to marry in the United States.

They were married in a newly renovated theater originally built in 1880 by George Westinghouse in Lee, Massachusetts, called The Playhouse. According to the property managers, the eclectic performance space “once served as a theater for America's greatest innovators, with visitors from President McKinley, to Nikola Tesla and Lord Kelvin”.

The venue was a bright and airy space decorated with local artifacts, photographs, and unique art pieces — a subtle reflection of Alex and Arlyn’s playful and sophisticated romance.

The drive to the Playhouse is everything you’d expect when driving to a wedding venue in the Berkshires. You get off the main road and are immediately given a perfect view of rolling hills, glass-like lakes, lazy farm lands, and mountains flecked with the earliest signs of spring. Alex and Arlyn wanted to treat their guests to a celebration that felt like a destination wedding and this was the perfect location to pull that off.

We stepped away from the festivities for a few minutes to take a few portraits along Laurel Lake and in some of the open fields near the venue.

In attendance were all of their closest camp friends and family from near and far. The ceremony was officiated by a close family member. It was short, sweet, and personal. They had a lovely reception featuring heart warming speeches, games and a spread of finger food for the guests to enjoy. I loved working with them and their silly camp friends. Congratulations Arlyn and Alex! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Stop Motion Video Series for Office Solution Company Bindertek

Bindertek offers sleek organizational solutions to businesses and business professionals. Their product line includes really great binders (of course), binder accessories and quality office products imported from Europe. I worked with the marketing team at Bindertek to create a package of short videos that they could use in email campaigns, on their blog, and on social channels such as Facebook and Instagram.

Here are some of my favorites from the 20 part how-to video series largely driven by stop-motion. Each video presented a common office problem that was quickly resolved by a Bindertek product.

Hilltown Love - Winter Couple Session in Ashfield Massachusetts

Michael and Sydney were married on June 2, 2018 at Red Gate Farm in Ashfield, Massachusetts. Over the holidays, Michael reached out to me to see if I’d be available to take some photos of the two of them at their home over the winter. They didn’t hire a photographer for their wedding and Michael wanted to surprise Sydney with a couple session for Christmas. These sessions are a great way to reconnect with your partner. I loved that they were open to that and that they were excited to throw on their wedding clothes one more time to celebrate the day.

I’ve been to Ashfield a handful of times. Once to photograph my friend’s farm and another time to camp. It’s a beautiful place for two free spirited people like Michael and Sydney to call home. They both grew up in Texas, met in college, travelled around a bit, and then decided to move to the Northeast. For kids from the south, I’d say this is a pretty raw commitment to New England life. Ashfield has no cell service, tons of farm land, dirt roads, swimming holes, and is a popular place for western mass artists and thinkers to tuck away in the woods.

I arrived at their house one Saturday morning in late March. The snow had melted in my town, but as soon as I pulled into Ashfield I noticed that old man winter was still holding on. Of course, I lost my GPS signal on the way and was driving around aimlessly for a bit. I rolled down my window at the sight of every dog walker to ask for directions like it was 1998, and still could not find their street. Finally I saw a happy couple standing at the end of a long muddy road. I pulled over and thankfully it was Michael and Sydney! They had a feeling I was lost and walked out to the main road to flag me down.

I parked my truck at the end of the road, and fearing I’d get stuck halfway down the muddy driveway, walked the rest of the way to their tiny cabin in the woods.

When I arrived I learned that Sydney had woken up with a cold and was trying desperately to ignore feeling sick for the session. We spent some time inside drinking tea and eating toast. We talked about their wedding, how they met, and the beautiful property they call home. I snapped a few photos indoors and when she built up the energy to go outside, she effortlessly threw on her wedding dress and ran out in the snow for me!

I photographed some of the details from their wedding day. Rings, handkerchiefs they used for place settings, invitations, funny notes and drawings in their guestbook, and a few polaroids from the big day. I especially loved how Sydney’s dress showed signs of the fun they had at their wedding, dancing in the barn down the road from their cabin.

I loved all of the one on one time I had with these two. They were incredibly sweet, funny, and adventurous. Being able to photograph them in their little cabin on such a beautiful winter day was an extra treat. Congrats you two! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!
