Before getting dressed for their wedding, Kayla and Joey stood out of eye shot from each other in the Mansion at Stonehurst at Hampton Valley. They chose not to see one another but instead, swap two hand written notes. At the end of Joey’s note to Kayla, he revealed that he had created an email address for her when they became serious daters. For years, Joey would email this account with little reflections on sweet moments they shared and reminders of his love for her. She was completely taken by surprise over such an unexpected grand gesture, one that was years in the making. An archive of love notes from her husband was waiting for her after their wedding.

Kayla admits that she was never the girl who dreamed of a big fancy wedding. She and Joey are without question sentimental people who have had a long relationship together. They met freshman year of high school when they were randomly assigned to be biology lab partners.

After college, they both entered accelerated nursing programs and then went on to work as nurses in Intensive Care Units. Joey works the night shift and Kayla works in a pediatric ICU.
